Wisconsin’s Sarah Nurse Joins Elite Company

Boston Pride prospect has 4 goal game, 5 goal series

Becoming the first Badger to score 4 goals in a game since Brooke Ammerman did so in 2012, Sarah Nurse propelled Wisconsin to a convincing series sweep of North Dakota. The feat places Nurse in some pretty special company, having the 53rd game with 4+ goals in WCHA history.

This recent outburst is on the heels of Nurse helping Wisconsin snap out of a short low-scoring stretch that started against Ohio State. In our first edition of Women’s College Hockey: NWHL Prospect Report published last week, we suggested that her involvement in Wisconsin pulling away from Clarkson late might be a precursor to an even bigger offensive breakout. That it was.

Based on watching Nurse over the summer at the U22 series, it looked like she was poised to become one of the top forwards in all of women’s college hockey. She has been pulling her game together week after week up until this point; maintaining an incredible 5.6 shots per game average will ensure that her rise continues through this hot streak.

REPORT: The U22 Series’ best player was an offensive revelation as a well-rounded forward…as clean of a one-on-one threat there is with slick, magnetic hands that always seem to corral the puck in…releases a deceptive shot through defenders and doesn’t rely on gimmies…competed with skilled intensity to make plays like a star forward…attacked the point in her own zone with thoughtful aggression and came away with a few blocks sprung as exits…with excellent offseason progression, Nurse is on track to be one of college hockey’s top forwards.

Nurse and the Badgers are expected to continue their offensive onslaught against Minnesota State on the road this weekend. The puck drop on Game 1 is slated for 2:07CT at the Verizon Wireless Center in Mankato, Minnesota.
