2018 Women’s Hockey Top 25 Under 25 | No. 10: Victoria Bach

The Canadian-born forward composed a college career for the books!

Past Accomplishments

Victoria Bach completed her time at Boston University as a 26 goal-per-year scorer. She scored 104 points in goals alone and tallied a total of 198 points as a Terrier. Bach was named the Hockey East Rookie of the Year in 2014-15 and became the second Terrier named a First-Team All-American (the first was Marie-Philip Poulin) in 2018. She was a top three finalist for the 2018 Patty Kazmaier Award, but lost out to Boston College’s freshman phenom Daryl Watts.

She entered 2018 postseason play as the NCAA season leader in goals per game (1.18), and was second in both goals (39) and points per game (2.03). She recorded 19 multi-goal games for the Terriers.

Future Impact

Bach was drafted seventh overall in the 2017 NWHL Draft (New York Riveters), but will return to Canada for her professional debut. She was pre-signed by reigning Clarkson Cup champions Markham Thunder and will make her pro debut in the 2018-19 season. If Bach’s knack for goal scoring can translate to the CWHL, this will bode very well for the Thunder.

Markham seems to believe she’ll be ready. “She will have an instant presence on our team both on and off the ice,” said Markham general manager Chelsea Purcell. “Bach may be one of the youngest coming to the team this season, but I have no doubt she will be a leader.”

Most intriguing about Bach to the CWHL is how she will fare with (and against) Olympic talent of the past, present, and future. With the Thunder, Bach will play alongside Olympians Laura Fortino, Laura Stacey, Jocelyne Laroque, and Megan Bozek (USA, 2014). Canada took home silver at the 2018 Winter Olympic Games. In another four years, Bach may very well find herself in a position to compete for a roster spot at the 2022 Olympic Games in China.

She has worn the maple leaf as a member of Team Canada a handful of times already. Bach won a gold medal with the U18 at the 2014 IIHF World Championships. She also led Canada to a Silver Medal at the 2017 Nations Cup with five points (two goals, three assists).

Is This Ranking Too High or Too Low

This ranking is too low for Bach. She put up record numbers and almost single-handedly at times willed BU to victory. While she got a lot of attention in her senior year, her numbers were consistent throughout her college career.

2018 Top 25 Under 25 - The Ice Garden

Overall, I am pleased to see the Mississauga-native on the list. She was overlooked for our 2017 List. Bach is better suited somewhere around 4-6 on our list. She just turned 22 last month, so perhaps this first mention on the #TIGt25u25 list will not be her last.
