Boston Pride announce partnership with Warrior Hockey

Warrior becomes the latest company to invest in the NWHL

Today, the NWHL announced Warrior Hockey will be an official partner of the Boston Pride.

The company has been the primary equipment brand for the NWHL since the second season, the same year the Pride began playing at Warrior Ice Arena, their current home rink.

The Pride played their first season at the Bright-Landry Hockey Center on the campus of Harvard University.

“Warrior is committed to growing the sport of hockey wherever it is being played, and we believe in the players and in the mission of the NWHL,” said John Gregory, Director of Brand Marketing for Warrior Sports in the league’s press release. “We are proud to support the Boston Pride through this partnership, and will work closely with the organization to showcase the team and the league, and to celebrate women’s hockey as a whole.”

The terms of the deal are undisclosed, per a league official. However, the partnership will include promotion of the game and its players. In addition, Warrior will be the official sponsor of the honorary captains who are selected from local youth leagues in the area.

The Pride are the professional home of three 2018 U.S. Olympic gold medalists – Gigi Marvin, Amanda Pelkey and Haley Skarupa –  all of whom played for the Pride prior to the PyeongChang Winter Olympic Games.

The Boston team also attracts many players with local roots. It will be interesting to see what types of local marketing this partnership will bring.

Whitecaps partner with TRIA in historic three-year deal

With the announcement of TRIA as a select sponsor for the Minnesota Whitecaps earlier in the year, this makes the second team-specific partnership announced by the league.

Additionally, the Buffalo Beauts are owned by Pegula Sports Entertainment, and the Metropolitan Riveters are in the second of a three-year strategic alliance with the New Jersey Devils.

Last month, Mike Murphy reported that NWHL commissioner Dani Rylan was seeking new an innovative partnerships for the league and its teams. The official partnership with Warrior Hockey might be a sign of more franchise-specific partnerships to come. As of today, the only franchise without a team-specific corporate or NHL-affiliate sponsor is the Connecticut Whale.

“The Boston Pride and Warrior Hockey are an ideal partnership for women’s hockey,” said Hayley Moore, NWHL Deputy Commissioner and Director of Player Development. “As anyone who follows the NWHL knows, the Pride players are perfectly aligned with the Warrior brand because their passion for the game is matched by their skill, energy and commitment. The NWHL thanks Warrior for their faith in our league and support of the Pride.”

The Pride will take the ice this Saturday at the Warrior Ice Arena as they host the Riveters.
