In a thrilling match, Switzerland upset Finland. Lara Christen, in her first Olympics, opened the scoring with the assists coming from Lara Stalder and Alina Muller. That was all the action for the first period.
After a handful of penalties on both sides, Nelli Laitinen was able to tie the game up for Finland. Dominique Ruegg was able to gain the lead back for Switzerland, and then after a handful of more penalties, the second period ended.
Lara Stalder came out of the game to the third period swinging, tacking on another goal at 41:21, surely giving Finland a reason to sweat. About ten minutes later, Holopainen was able to cut the Swiss lead down by one, but ultimately it wasn’t enough and the Finnish fell in their second to last group stage game.
With Finland set to face off with ROC tomorrow, if they win that, there will be a three-way tie for third place in Group A...because things weren’t already getting crazy enough.
