The Isobel Cup Playoffs are heading to Florida
All six PHF teams will contend for the 2022 Isobel Cup in a weekend of games, with the championship to be decided on March 28
The PHF announced today that all six teams will be heading to Florida to compete for the 2022 Isobel Cup.
The Isobel Cup will be awarded on Monday, March 28 following a playoff schedule consisting of five games. Two preliminary round games will be played on Friday, March 25 followed by two semi finals on Sunday, March 27. All games will stream live across the United States on ESPN+ and will be available internationally on ESPN affiliates including TSN Direct in Canada. The championship will be decided live on ESPN2 at 9:00 p.m. ET.
“The 2021-22 season has been truly historic for the PHF and for our athletes who deserve the opportunity to compete for the Isobel Cup and raise it in the national spotlight on ESPN2,” said PHF Commissioner Tyler Tumminia in a statement released by the PHF.
Tumminia hopes that the PHF’s playoff weekend will add to the growing legacy of sporting success in Tampa Bay. This will also be the first time that the Isobel Cup will be contested on neutral ice outside of any traditional PHF markets.
Since its opening in 2017, AdventHealth Center Ice has been instrumental in growing the reach of hockey in Florida. The venue served as the training home of the U.S. National Women’s Team prior to the 2018 Olympics and has seen an exponential increase in women and girls playing in their leagues since then.
“We expect the PHF championship to only further that excitement and participation,”said Gordie Zimmermann, CEO of AdventHealth Center Ice.
With just over a month and a half until playoff weekend, the race for first place in the regular season is starting to heat up. Twenty-five regular season games will be played in the next six weeks and will help to determine the seeding for the Isobel Cup Playoffs. The top two ranked teams at the end of the regular season will advance directly to the semifinals, while the remaining four teams will play preliminary single elimination games to determine the matchups. As things sit currently, the Connecticut Whale and Toronto Six would move directly into the semifinals as the top teams in the standings.
