Last Season

If you’ve been around the women’s hockey world for the last few seasons, you know the name Sarah Fillier extremely well. And of course, that’s for good reason. Before she turned 24-years old, Sarah Fillier capped off a successful 2023-24 season by hearing her name get called first overall at the 2024 PWHL Draft.

In her final season at Princeton, Fillier had a career best 30 goals and 43 points in 29 games. At the end of the season, she led the entire country in goals per game at the collegiate level with 1.03.

At the 2024 World Championships, Fillier won her third World Championship Gold with Team Canada, a team she has had incredible individual and team success with. In Utica, the Canadian forward scored 2 goals and 1 assist in 7 games.

Career

Sarah Fillier has quickly emerged as one of the most dynamic players in women’s hockey. She is a game breaking talent that makes a difference on any roster she’s placed on. The Princeton standout won ECAC Hockey Rookie of the Year honours and was also named an All-American in her first season. From there, the accomplishments and stats only continued to grow.

The 2021 World Championships was the moment Sarah Fillier truly became a household name. During that tournament, Fillier played the wing on one of Canada’s best lines with Natalie Spooner and Mèlodie Daoust. Not only did Team Canada take home the gold that season, her line combined for 27 points in Canada’s 7 games played.

During the 2022 Beijing Olympics, Sarah Fillier’s Canadian stardom only continued where she had an impressive 11 points in 7 games and won her first career Olympic Gold Medal. Since the 2022 Olympics, Sarah Fillier’s game has evolved not only on the offensive side of her game, but her defensive side as well.

In her final two seasons at Princeton Fillier recorded the best numbers in her career and grew as a leader both on and off the ice. As much as she’s one of the best goal scorers in the world, she is also a strong two-way player who will make a significant impact at the pro level with PWHL New York this upcoming season.

Future

At just the young age of 24 Sarah Fillier has already accomplished so much. She’s played with some of the best in the world on the international stage and as she transitions from her collegiate success at Princeton to a professional career with PWHL New York, her talent and growth in the sport will only get better from here.

As the 2024-25 PWHL Season gets underway this fall, Sarah Fillier is the sure favourite to win Rookie of the Year, and then some. Playing alongside players like Alex Carpenter, Abby Roque, and many more the Canadian forward is set to make an immediate impact on PWHL New York.

Too High or Too Low?

There isn’t a single player under the age of 25 who has as much talent and upside that Sarah Fillier has. She's a generational talent and in my opinion, in a league of her own. Being ranked No. 1 is the perfect spot for the freshest face in New York.
