“As talented and determined as Sammy is on the ice, her selflessness and leadership make her a perfect fit for the team we are building for Boston,” said Pride general manager Karilyn Pilch in the league’s release. “There is no doubt in our minds that as she is challenged by her teammates and the competition across the NWHL, Sammy’s game will continue to develop and she will reach even higher levels as a player.”
As a senior during the 2019-20 campaign, Davis finished fourth in Hockey East in scoring with 41 points in 36 games. She led the conference in both power-play goals (8) and points (20) and led Boston University in goals (17), assists (24), and shots on goal (126). In the 2018-19 season, Davis led the Terriers with 25 goals and finished second on the team in scoring with 52 points in 37 games.
She finished her collegiate career as nearly a point-per-game player (0.97 Pts/GP) and was a consistent force on BU’s power play. Davis scored at least four goals on the power play in each of her four seasons with the Terriers. She missed the entire 2017-18 season with a bilateral hip labral tear. Just a few years after making the difficult decision to undergo surgery and miss her junior year, she became the first pick of the 2020 NWHL Draft.
Davis is the fifth player to sign with the Pride for the 2020-21 NWHL season, joining 2020 NWHL All-Stars Kaleigh Fratkin, McKenna Brand, Lexie Laing, and Christina Putigna. She’s also the first rookie to sign with the team for next season and the first player from the 2020 Draft to sign.
