Coaches, puck drops, and singers released for CWHL All Star Game
It’s been one ... year since the last CWHL All Star Game
All week the CWHL released various details for the upcoming All Star game in Toronto. So let’s a take a look at how the Jan. 20 event at the Scotiabank Arena, the home of the Maple Leafs, is shaping up.
34 players named to 2019 All Star teams
In December, the CWHL announced the 34 All Stars. The Inferno lead the way with nine All Stars, Montreal and Markham are sending seven, KRS Vanke Rays are sending six, Toronto has four, and Worcester has one.
Lacquette, Knox named captains
On Jan. 5 and 6, during their Sportsnet broadcast, the captains were announced. Inferno defender Brigette Lacquette and Thunder goaltender Liz Knox were the two players voted in by fans.
Lacquette garnered 50 percent of the total fan votes, according to the CWHL.
Barenaked Ladies
In an surprise move, the Barenaked Ladies are set to sing the Anthem at the game. The Toronto-based band expressed their love of hockey and excitement to be a part of the event.
Hopefully, everyone will have “One Week” out of their head eventually...
Coaches, coaches, coaches
Three sets of coaches have been announced for the game.
Former NHL-ers Glenn Healy and Curtis Joseph were the first set to be announced.
Charline Labonté and Cheryl Pounder were announced as the CWHL alumna coaches.
And finally, Anastasia Bucsis and Gerry Dee will be Guest Coaches.
Puck drop
Former NHL-er Doug Gilmore will drop the ceremonial puck.
