Former first overall pick Kelsey Koelzer re-signs with Riveters
New York Riveters fans certainly have something to cheer about today.
This morning the Riveters agreed to terms with 2016 first overall pick Kelsey Koelzer. Koelzer was signed late last season and appeared in one Isobel Cup Playoff game with New York after having yet another standout year with the Princeton Tigers.
“I learned a lot in the brief time I spent with the Riveters last season,” Koelzer shared in the league’s press release. “Having the experience now with the speed of the game will help me when we get back to work come October.”
Koelzer developed her game in New Jersey’s Rockets girls program before starting her remarkable career at Princeton. She showed a lot of promise as a freshman, scoring six goals in her first season of NCAA DI college hockey. But Koelzer took her game to another level in her sophomore season.
As the Tigers captain she broke 30 points for the second time in her college career last season. All told, Koelzer had 100 points in 128 games for the Tigers.
“The Riveters are such a great organization with amazing fans, players and staff, so I’m really excited about spending the entire season with them,” Koelzer added. “I’m also very proud to be part of the NWHL as it continues to grow in so many ways.”
Koelzer joins a Riveters blue line that features Courtney Burke, fellow rookie Jenny Ryan and veterans Kiira Dosdall and captain Ashley “Stretch” Johnston.
