WATCH: Hilary Knight goes bar-down to win gold for Team USA in IIHF World Championships
Sweet, sweet victory for the USWNT just over a week after they won a deal for women in sport everywhere.
Really, you couldn’t have scripted this any better.
Just a week before, Team USA won a landmark victory for women in sports when national team players secured a (fair) deal with USA Hockey on a four-year contract that ended a boycott and sent the team to Worlds.
For a while, we weren't sure if we would even see the original national team face off against the world’s very best- but thank goodness they did, because otherwise we would have missed an incredible gold-medal game.
It was USA and Canada in the gold medal game, and though many expected the two rivals to face off for the title, everyone was still on the edge of their seat for the whole game. 60 minutes wasn’t enough to decide the game, so to overtime we went.
And then, 10 minutes into overtime, surrounded by over 3500 fans, Hilary Knight shot a laser past Shannon Szabados to win it all.

Bar down. Game over. Mass chaos.
Truly, you couldn’t have drawn up a more perfect ending for an insane month of news for the national team. For now, at least, they can celebrate gold.
