Colgate Star Kaltounková "Stepping Away" From Team After Serving Two-Game Suspension
The senior standout for Colgate has been absent for four games following her three-point weekend on Jan. 26-27.
A report by Nicole Haase on USCHO.com published Tuesday states that Colgate Raiders senior forward Kristýna Kaltounková has stepped away from the team following a two-game suspension served earlier this month.
Kaltounková had sat out the past four games, serving her suspension over Feb. 2 and 3 while the Raiders played against Clarkson and St. Lawrence, and not dressing for this past weekend's tilts at Union and Rennselaer. Her last played games, in fact, were Jan. 26 and 27, where she tallied three points (2 G, 1 A) against Harvard and Dartmouth. Overall this season, she is currently tied for fifth in the nation (with Abby Hustler and Tessa Janecke) and ranked second on the Raiders in points with 24 goals and 25 assists.
Neither Colgate nor ECAC Hockey has appeared to disclose the reason for the suspension or the timeframe for Kaltounková to return, but it's worth noting neither the report on USCHO nor the box scores for her last played games indicate the suspension was related to on-ice actions.
Colgate is currently at the top of ECAC Hockey and looking to finish out its regular season this weekend on the road against Yale and Brown.
UPDATE, Feb. 15, 2024 3:32 p.m.: An earlier version of this piece indicated in the subhead Kaltounková was unlikely to return as there was no timeframe provided. Colgate women's hockey has since issued this statement to TIG:
"Kristýna Kaltounková served a two-game suspension issued by the ECAC and took some time away from the team. We look forward to her returning to the ice this weekend."
