Riveters unveil new jersey for 2019-20 season
New season, new jersey
The Metropolitan Riveters will have a new look for the NWHL’s fifth season.
Their new sweaters feature Rosie the Riveter on the front with a white background and red collar. The sleeves are navy blue with three white stripes through them.
The league’s press release calls the stripes “an homage to the women who worked in factories constructing aircraft, munitions and other war materials.” It continues on to say “Without them, an Allied victory in World War II would not have been possible, which is one of the reasons why Rosie the Riveter has become an enduring symbol of female empowerment.”

The change is a departure from the red jerseys the team has had for the last three seasons. It is a bit of a nod to the first season’s jerseys which were white with navy blue shoulder yolks. The sleeves had dots on the forearm, meant to be rivets. That detail stayed with the jerseys, up until this season.
The Riveters open their season on Oct. 5 at their new home at Pro Skate Ice Arena in Monmouth Junction, NJ.
