NWHL continues digital growth with Cheddar
The NWHL and Cheddar have announced a broadcast partnership
On Monday, the NWHL announced a broadcast partnership with Cheddar. Cheddar describes itself as “a live and on demand video news network, focused on covering the most innovative products, technologies, and services transforming our lives.” The service is available on Sling TV, Amazon, Twitter, and Facebook Live.
This partnership answers the lingering question of the NWHL’s streaming options for its second season. Last season, the NWHL partnered with NESN and ESPN3 to broadcast the Boston Pride’s home games. This year, there was no word to an alternative to the YouTube Cross-Ice Pass until now.
Considering the amount of troubles and streaming issues that the NWHL has encountered with the YouTube stream, it will be interesting to see if Cheddar will provide support for the League’s team.
The deal with Cheddar can prove fruitful, as it poses a deeper foray into the cable-cutting audience. Streaming sports through alternative channels, such as the NFL on Twitter or E-sports on Twitch, have proved valuable in this new age.
Cheddar also provides broader reach and scale for the NWHL. Instead of holding them to the Boston area or the depths of ESPN3, NWHL games for all teams will be on Cheddar, readily available for those flipping through Sling TV.
Cheddar CEO Jon Steinberg states, “Women’s hockey is the future, Cheddar is the future, and Sling is the future. It all makes perfect sense.”
Catch this partnership in action starting Sunday, Nov. 20, at 3:30 pm, as the Buffalo Beauts host the undefeated Boston Pride.
