NWHL Goal of the Week: Shatalova dangles through the Pride

Metropolitan Riveters Russian rookie forward Tatiana Shatalova scored the goal of her NWHL career on Monday afternoon.

Although the Boston Pride were able to answer back after Shatalova’s third period game-tying goal (6:15) to extend their unprecedented 19-game winning streak, the NWHL’s youngest player put on a show with her stickhandling ability.

After retrieving the puck in the defensive zone, Shatalova flew up the ice while being pressured from behind until she carried it into the offensive zone. Once there, Shatalova feinted going inside, but went to the outside around Briana Mastel and then managed to toe drag around a sliding Pride defender before slipping the puck past goaltender Victoria Hanson. The dangles were real, friends.

Shatalova’s game-tying tally was unassisted and marked the second time in the game that the Riveters were able to draw even with the undefeated Pride. Shatalova is now fourth on the Rivs in scoring with 10 points. She has two goals and eight assists in addition to scoring a shootout-winner against the Minnesota Whitecaps on Dec. 14. Shatalova has nine points over her last six games and has registered a shot in 12 consecutive games.
