PHF Goals of Week: Dec. 11-12

Toronto topped the weekend with some amazing goals.

We were supposed to get two matchups this weekend but due to inclement weather, the Beauts were sent back home to Buffalo and we just had two games between the Toronto Six and the Metropolitan Riveters. That didn’t take away from seeing some fantastic goals that ultimately left Toronto sweeping the weekend.

History was made on the Riveters bench, as Kelly Nash acted as head coach in Ivo Mocek’s absence, making her the first female head coach in Riveters history.

Riveters captain, Madison Packer started the scoring for the Rivs but unfortunately for them it would be the only goal they scored this weekend. The long wraparound shot put the Riveters up 1-0 here.

Taylor Woods quickly tied it up for Toronto but defender, Lindsay Eastwood got the game winner in the third period with this one.

That is how Saturday’s game ended, but Mikyla Grant-Mentis wasted no time in getting ahead in Sunday’s game too. With an absolutely highlight-reel worthy goal, she opened the scoring on Sunday and kept the momentum going for the Six.

While surely not a goal, it doesn’t seem fair not to give some goalie love to Brooke Wolejko on this penalty shot play. She effectively kept the game 1-0 after her team earning a power play, but then then Toronto drawing an interference penalty out of Rebecca Russo on the shorthanded breakaway.

Finally, Woods and Grant-Mentis meet again to nail the win down for the Six on Sunday, effectively hosting a sweep of the Riveters. Obviously these two were integral parts of winning both games this weekend and almost always deserve a shoutout in any recap.

Some more goalie love is deserved for Elaine Chuli who got her first shutout of the season in this game.

We are unsure when we will get a Beauts and Whitecaps rematch, but all teams will be in action this upcoming weekend with Boston meeting the Riveters, Buffalo hosting the Whale, and the Whitecaps taking on Toronto. It all starts Saturday, Dec. 18 at 6:00p.m. EST.
