PHF Goals of Week: Feb. 19-21
Nothing like an outdoor classic game to bring out the big goals!
All of the action began this weekend in Minnesota as Riveters captain Madison Packer played in her 100th game of her PHF career. It was also the Whitecaps’ Pride night at TRIA rink, and the jerseys were simply chef’s kiss.
The Whitecaps won 5-2, with a lot of thanks to Allie Thunstrom, of course. She put up two goals extending her season lead over the rest of the league.

The Riveters did put up a good fight and made use of their power play unit with this goal by Kendall Cornine to keep it close.

These two teams met again on Sunday for a rematch as the Riveters looked to split the series. They definitely came out with more fire in this game, not wanting to get swept in Minnesota. Now, if you’ve read my previous recaps of the PHF goals of the week, you know just how much I love a good water bottle pop and I think Kelly Babstock may have given us the best one yet. She makes it 5-3 with this one here.

Packer also couldn’t stop making history in her 101st career game. She got an empty net goal for her 50th goal and 100th point of her career in Minnesota on Sunday. This made it 7-4, which is how this game would end.

With a split series in Minnesota, these two teams are still tied for fourth place with 16 points each on the season, making it a tight race in the bottom three of this league.
The fun was not over Sunday though, as the Buffalo Beauts and the Toronto Six met at the outdoor rink at Riverworks in Buffalo for the annual Buffalo Believes Classic on Monday afternoon for a special President’s Day showing.
The story here is not the goals that happened, rather the goals that didn’t happen. Beauts goaltender, Carly Jackson posted a 36-save shutout against the top team in the league in her first Buffalo Believes Classic. The Beauts ultimately won 3-0 against the Six.

PHF action will be back this weekend as Toronto visits the Metropolitan Riveters for a two game series and Boston will host Buffalo for two games as well. All of that begins Saturday Feb. 26, at 2 p.m. EST.
