PHF Goals of Week: Jan. 15-16
The PHF came back this weekend with enough goals to make up for their weeks off.
Finally, the PHF was back in action after a holiday break and some COVID related postponements but what four teams offered up to us this weekend definitely made up for it.
Fair warning now, I both start and end this collection with goals by Mikyla Grant-Mentis who is proving to be worthy of a second MVP award in just her second full season.
To begin, we have her first goal of the weekend here to put the Six up 2-0 on the Buffalo Beauts. You already know I have to mention the water bottle pop!

Her teammate, Amy Curlew, then went on to make it 3-0 with one of the grittiest goals of the weekend, by far. This backhander makes the list for that reason, along with it being her first of the season.

This next goal makes the list for style and significance. Shannon Turner claimed a goal in her 100th PHF game of her career on Saturday, solidifying even more why she’s a legend and giving her a reason to never forget this game. It also put the Whale up 5-0 on the Riveters on Saturday, so I’m sure she loved that too.

One of many power play goals this weekend, Emma Woods makes my list for pure prettiness and flashiness alone. This goal genuinely excited me more than any other this weekend.

Finally, on Sunday, Janka Hlinka made history with her first goal and first game winning goal of her career in the PHF. Asked about it at intermission, and she said it was great but kept the focus on winning the game which they went on to do 3-2.

I couldn’t just leave out Mikyla Grant-Mentis’ Sunday hat trick, but I also couldn’t just throw it in with the rest, so I’ll leave you with this...from your official PHF leading goal scorer...a MGM Grand Story in three parts:

The PHF will be back with games next weekend with all six teams on the docket, starting at 4:00 p.m. EST in Connecticut as the Whale host the first place Toronto Six in a series you absolutely don’t want to miss.
