Players to vote for as the CWHL All Star captain
Can’t pick who to vote for? We got you
After announcing all 34 All-Stars, the CWHL is leaving it up to the fans to pick the captains. From now until Jan. 4, fans can vote once a day online. The winners will be announced during the league’s pair of games on Sportsnet on Jan. 5 and 6.

Past captains include Carlee Campbell versus co-captains Natalie Spooner and Meaghan Mikkelson in 2016-17, Spooner versus Julie Chu in 2015-16, and Charline Labonté versus Jessica Campbell in 2014-15.
This season’s All Stars include players that seem obvious to vote for as captains - Spooner for her third nod, Hilary Knight, Marie-Philip Poulin. But what about ones that might not be so obvious?
Brigette Lacquette
On the ice, Lacquette leads all Inferno defenders in points (11) and assists (9). She’s on pace to set a new career high in points. Off the ice, she is using her status as the first First Nations woman to play on Canada’s Olympic hockey team to give back. Seeing as community involvement was one of the considerations to be named to the team, Lacquette feels like a natural choice to vote for.
Rachel Llanes
Llanes is quietly having a great season with KRS Vanke Rays. With 12 points in 13 games, she’s already tied her career high in points in the CWHL. Paired with her off ice leadership with the Chinese players, Llanes would make a great captain.
Lauren Williams
The lone Blades representative is a defender on a team that gets a lot of goals scored on them. So it makes sense that her numbers don’t look like a normal All-Star. Her college numbers prove she’s a strong, solid defender, and her time training guide dogs adds to her All Star captain application.
Ann-Sophie Bettez
Bettez is on fire this season. She’s passed (interim commissioner) Jayna Hefford for all-time career points with 236 in 156 games. She’s spent her whole career with Montréal as well. On a team of Olympians, Bettez holds it down.
Brianna Decker
Honestly, Decker is up there for best player in the world. There’s little she hasn’t done or probably can’t do. Add yet another accolade to her shelf: CWHL All-Star Captain.
Goalie v Goalie
Okay so this is more than one player, but go with me here.
Because you can only vote for one player a day, its hard to really vote for captain pairs. But how great would it be to have two goalies as captains. Team Alex Rigsby versus Team Noora Räty or Team Liz Knox versus Team Emerance Maschmeyer. All four are well deserving of an All Star C.
