They say that records are meant to be broken, and the PWHL is certainly taking that to heart. With 14,018 in attendance at Sunday's Takeover Tour game in Denver, Colorado, the U.S. attendance record for a professional women's hockey game has been broken.

Sunday's game featured a neutral-site matchup between the Minnesota Frost and the Montréal Victoire. Maggie Flaherty scored the game-winning goal in the 4-2 win for the Frost, while Sophie Jaques had an impressive two-point night in her first game back off long-term injured reserve.

All three of the Takeover Tour games played to date have seen impressive attendance figures, with 12,608 filling the seats at Climate Pledge Arena in Seattle, Washington and a whopping 19,038 at Rogers Arena in Vancouver, British Columbia.

The Takeover Tour continues with one more date this month as the Victoire and Ottawa Charge face off in Quebec City, QC on January 19. Five more games, including four in the United States, lie ahead in February and March, so we'll have to see if any of them can compete with the attendance in Denver. (Based on early ticket sales, it doesn't appear so, but that could change!)

The previous record attendance for a professional women's hockey game in the United States was set last season, when 13,736 came to an Ottawa/Boston game in Detroit, Michigan. The overall PWHL attendance record is 21,105 in Montréal.

Through 28 games, including three Takeover Tour matchups, the PWHL is averaging 7,098 fans/game, with 198,737 attending this season thus far.
