On Tuesday afternoon at the ESPNw Summit stage, Amy Scheer, the PWHL’s Senior VP of Business Operations confirmed that the league has officially started the expansion process for two new teams.

The league is planning to issue a request for proposal (RFP) to explore potential new locations for the new teams. The PWHL currently has six teams in Boston, Toronto, Minnesota, New York, Ottawa and Montreal.

“Expansion is the first question we get asked, at every event we’re at,” Scheer mentioned in an interview. “It just seems like the right time to look into it. And I think once we have these conversations and understand what the real interest is, we’ll understand if this is the right time or not. But it was the right time to put the word out.”

The league is hoping to have proposals in hand by the end of the year, with decisions coming in 2025.
