PWHL Announces Home Openers and Arenas

Today, the PWHL announced the home openers for every team, as well as each team’s primary home arena.

The inaugural season officially kicks off on January 1 at 12:30 p.m. with New York visiting Toronto. Fans can sign up for early access to tickets by subscribing to the PWHL newsletter here.

While the time may seem odd initially, keep in mind that January 1 is already a day marked on hockey fans’ calendars since it features the NHL’s annual Winter Classic. This year, the reigning Stanley Cup champion Vegas Golden Knights visit the Seattle Kraken this year at 3 p.m. EST. So, this historic PWHL game will serve as a great kickoff to an exciting, hockey-filled day.

The inaugural game kicks off a stretch of three home openers in three days, with every team hitting the ice. The last home opener occurs on January 13, when Boston visits Montreal. Broadcast information and the full schedules are still to be announced.

“Giving our athletes the opportunity to step onto the ice to compete in front of our passionate fans has been the driving force of our efforts, and it’s going to be an exciting reality on New Year’s Day,” said Stan Kasten, PWHL Advisory Board member in the official press release. “It’s time for the best women’s hockey players in the world to lift our game to greater heights.”

Below is the full home opener schedule. Each arena used will be the team’s primary home rink for the inaugural season, according the league in the release.
