Sirens Announce 2024-25 Roster
The New York Sirens have announced their final roster for the 2024-25 season. Who made the cut?
On the eve of the opening of the PWHL regular season, the New York Sirens have announced their final roster. Let’s take a look:
Forwards:
- Chloé Aurard
- Alex Carpenter
- Jade Downie-Landry
- Jessie Eldridge
- Emmy Fecteau
- Sarah Fillier
- Élizabeth Giguère
- Paetyn Levis
- Elle Hartje
- Abby Roque
- Gabby Rosenthal
- Jill Saulnier
- Noora Tulus
Defenders:
- Taylor Baker
- Jaime Bourbonnais
- Brooke Hobson
- Maja Nylén Persson
- Ella Shelton
- Allyson Simpson
- Micah Zandee-Hart
Goaltenders:
- Abbey Levy
- Kayle Osborne
- Corinne Schroeder
Reserves:
- Kayla Vespa
Notably, the Sirens will only have one reserve player going into the season, though they are allowed up to three. It is a difficult situation as reserve players earn only $15,000 a year and no housing stipend. In a market as expensive as New York, it is likely that some players might make the decision to decline a reserve spot in favor of another team. As it is, their only reserve player in Kayla Vespa is a forward, so if they face bad injury luck on the blue line they may find themselves in a difficult situation.
The Sirens will also enter the season with a number of exciting rookies. Sarah Fillier, as the first overall pick in the 2024 draft, is likely the most anticipated rookie in the entire league. She is sure to make an immediate impact on the team, contributing to an already strong offensive core, and is likely a front-runner for Rookie of the Year.
She is not the only notable new face on the team this year, however. Up front, rookies Emmy Fecteau and Elle Hartje earned themselves three-year contracts following the conclusion of training camp. Other rookies who went into training camp unsigned but secured themselves a spot on the roster include forward Gabby Rosenthal and defender Allyson Simpson.
While they have professional experience playing in Europe, Maja Nylen Persson and Noora Tulus will both be new to the Sirens and to the PWHL this year. Persson is expected to fill a top-four role on the blueline and Tulus will likely find a place in the top six of the forward lineup.
The Sirens will look similar in net to last year, with one change; Lindsey Post announced her retirement over the off-season and the Sirens drafted Kayle Osborne, who they’ve signed to a three-year contract. Osborne and Abbey Levy will back up Corinne Schroeder, who returns on a two-year deal.
There were a number of players invited to camp who did not make the final roster:
- Alexa Gruschow
- Savannah Norcross
- Madison Bizal
- Olivia Zafuto
- Madison Packer
Of these, only Bizal was not on the roster last year. Madison Packer, former captain of the Metropolitan Riveters of the PHF, announced her retirement on Nov. 23. Gruschow, Norcross, and Bizal were placed on waivers; none were claimed. Olivia Zafuto signed with the Boston Fleet as a reserve player.
There were no major surprises to the roster this year, save perhaps for Packer’s retirement. The Sirens had a very strong draft and combined with an already highly talented existing roster, they will have an impressive group taking the ice when they play their first game of the season against Minnesota on Sunday, December 1.
