Reagan Carey stepping down from USA Hockey
Carey has been the director of women’s hockey for eight years
Sunday night, USA Hockey announced that Reagan Carey, the director of women’s hockey, would be stepping down from her role of eight years.
“It was a privilege to represent USA Hockey and an honor to lead this program for eight years” said Carey in USAH’s press release. “I hope the work we’ve done and the advancements we’ve made on and off the ice have honored the work of those coaches, volunteers and players who have come before us and have inspired the next generation of players to come.”
According to her USA Hockey bio, as the director of women’s hockey for USAH, Carey was the general manager for the national and select teams as well as being in charge of the development of elite players and coaches. Previous to her time at USA Hockey, Carey gained experience in growing the game through her time in fan development at the Atlanta Thrashers.
At USAH, Carey has helped guide the women’s program to success. In her eight years, the women’s team won the first Olympic gold in 20 years (2018) as well as one silver medal in the Olympics (2014). The national team has also won five golds at each Worlds, U18 Worlds, and 4 Nations.
“On behalf of the players, we want to thank Reagan for her commitment and devotion to the program over the years,” said Meghan Duggan in the program’s release. “The success the team has had under her leadership is unmatched. Her contribution to girls and women’s hockey goes far beyond her work with our U.S. Women’s National Team and her presence will be greatly missed. We wish her all the best in whatever the future holds for her.”
The announcement comes ahead of Team USA’s Four Nations training camp, which starts today in Chicago, and the start of a new quad (the four years of an Olympic cycle).
Carey’s departure leaves Team USA slightly adrift eight days before the first tournament after the Olympics. USAH does not have a replacement for her and will begin a nationwide search immediately.
