SB Nation’s NCAA Poll: Chaos Sauce
Well that was a bit nutty, plenty of exciting games with exciting results and no one agrees about anything.
Our top team lost two-thirds of their available points and it sent our voters into a frenzy of uncertainty. No one agrees on anything as four teams received top billing votes and the rest of the teams got put in all sorts of orders.
1. Ohio State (12-1-1), 106 (6) — Last poll: 2
- Last week: W 5-0 v Bemidji State (11/18), W 7-1 v Bemidji State (11/19)
- Coming Week: v Colgate (11/22, 11/23)/
The Buckeyes easily handled a weak Beavers team. This weekend will be more of a challenge as Colgate comes to town for a mid-week pair before the holiday.
2. Quinnipiac (12-1-0), 96 (2) — Last poll: 3
- Last week: W 4-0 v Clarkson (11/18), W 5-2 v St. Lawrence (11/19)
- Coming Week: v Bemidji State (11/25), v Connecticut/Sacred Heart (11/26)/
A slow start to the weekend led to a very successful pair of outings. This week brings a very weak Nutmeg Classic field as Yale is off in Vegas.
3. Minnesota (9-2-2), 94 (3) — Last poll: 1
- Last week: T 3-3 OT (SOW 1-0) @ Wisconsin (11/19), L 1-4 @ Wisconsin (11/20)
- Coming Week: v Penn State (11/25), v Boston University/ Yale (11/26)/
It was a disappointing fall from grace for the Gophers as they were unable to take care of business on the road. They will head to Vegas for the holidays and will likely take on a strong Yale team which will give some clarity at the top here.
4. Yale (6-0-0), 85 — Last poll: 4
- Last week: W 3-0 v Penn State (11/18), W 2-1 OT v Penn State (11/19)
- Coming Week: v Boston University (11/25), v Penn State/ Minnesota (11/26)/
The Bulldogs did get taken to OT in their second matchup but were able to finish the sweep over Penn State. They now head to Vegas and take on a suddenly hot BU team before either meeting Minnesota or playing a third game against Penn State.
5. Wisconsin (11-2-1), 76 — Last poll: 7
- Last week: T 3-3 OT (SOL 0-1) v Minnesota (11/19), W 4-1 v Minnesota (11/120)
- Coming Week: No Games/
Taking four out of six points against your rival who happens to be the top team in the country ought to make the Badgers fans very happy. It earned them this week’s ‘Belles of the Ball’ title and a well-deserved week off for the holiday.
6. Colgate (13-1-0), 69 — Last poll: 5
- Last week: No Games
- Coming Week: @ Ohio State (11/22, 11/23)/
The Raiders were idle but now head to Columbus for a pair just before the holiday in what will be a crucial PWR matchup.
7. Minnesota-Duluth (11-5-0), 43 — Last poll: 8
- Last week: W 4-0 v Harvard (11/18), W 9-0 v Harvard (11/19)
- Coming Week: No Games/
Duluth obliterated the Crimson in both games. They will also take the holiday week off.
8. Northeastern (14-2-1), 41 — Last poll: 6
- Last week: L 0-3 @ Providence (11/15), W 2-1 v Holy Cross (11/18), W 5-2 @ Holy Cross (11/19)
- Coming Week: v Princeton (11/25), v Cornell (11/26)/
That sweep of BC was wasted as the Huskies fell apart in Providence and then struggled to find any rhythm against a well overmatched Holy Cross team. They will head to Nashville for a pair of OOC games that could be make or break for their tournament seeding.
9. Cornell (6-2-0), 23 — Last poll: 9
- Last week: No Games
- Coming Week: v Northeastern (11/26), v Princeton (11/27)/
Cornell was also idle and heads to Tennessee for a pair of OOC games, one against the Northeastern team just above them and the other against an Ivy League rival in Princeton.
10. Clarkson (13-4-1), 12 — Last poll: 10
- Last week: L 0-4 @ Quinnipiac (11/18), W 1-0 @ Princeton (11/19)
- Coming Week: v Maine (11/25, 11/26)/
The Golden Knights kept it close for a while but were just overmatched against Quinnipiac, and then edged out the Tigers to salvage the weekend. They now heard to Orono for a pair that could be a challenge.
Also Receiving Votes: Princeton 7, Vermont 4, Providence 3, Penn State 1
