SB Nation’s NCAA Poll: Safe Starts
Most of our teams are taking easier starts so far this season but things should start to warm up soon.
While everyone has touched the ice we haven’t seen enough action for the PWR to start not that that little fact has stopped some results from derailing a couple of teams at large chances already. Our top ten hasn’t moved much but we are getting much more agreement on who fits into the top nine at least.
1. Ohio State (4-0-0), 93 (6) — Last poll: 1
- Last week: W 5-2 v St. Cloud State (10/7), W 6-2 v St. Cloud State (10/8)
- Coming Week: @ Bemidji State (10/15, 10/16)/
The Buckeyes handled business against the western Huskies and will travel for a pair against the Beavers.
2. Minnesota (2-0-0), 88 (1) — Last poll: 2
- Last week: W 6-0 v Bemidji State (10/7), W 4-1 v Bemidji State (10/8)
- Coming Week:@ Minnesota State (10/14, 10/15)/
Minnesota never really had doubts though their second game was tighter later than their fans would like. A pair against the Mavericks might be a tougher test than is usually expected.
3. Northeastern (4-0-0), 73 — Last poll: 3
- Last week: W 3-0 v Connecticut (10/7), W 4-1 @ Connecticut (10/8)
- Coming Week: @ Merrimack (10/14), v Merrimack (10/15)/
The eastern Huskies swept the southern Huskies pretty dominantly. They will have a pair against bottom of the table Merrimack this weekend.
4. Wisconsin (5-1-0), 62 (1) — Last poll: 4
- Last week: W 5-0 v St. Thomas (10/7), W 9-1 v St. Thomas (10/8)
- Coming Week: @ St. Cloud State (10/14, 10/15)/
After sweeping the worst team in the WCHA, the Badgers will travel to St. Cloud for another pair of likely easy wins.
5. Quinnipiac (6-0-0), 57 — Last poll: 5
- Last week: W 6-1 @ St. Anselm (10/7), W 7-1 v St. Anselm (10/8)
- Coming Week: @ Harvard (10/15)/
The Bobcats put on another dominating performance against a bad team to stay perfect. They will Tavel to Boston to open ECAC play.
6. Colgate (5-0-0), 54 — Last poll: 6
- Last week: W 3-2 @ Penn State (10/7), W 2-1 @ Penn State (10/8)
- Coming Week: v RIT (10/14, 10/15)/
They might have been tight but they were wins against another team in our poll, earning them this week’s ‘Belles of the Ball’ honors. They play host to a RIT team that had an offensive outburst but likely should be a pair of wins.
7. Minnesota-Duluth (6-0-0), 50 — Last poll: 7
- Last week: W 2-1 OT v Minnesota State (10/7), W 2-0 v Minnesota State (10/8)
- Coming Week: No Games /
After an overtime squeaker against Mankato, the Bulldogs took care of business in a shutout. They will take a week off before returning to play.
8. Princeton (0-0-0), 26 (1) — Last poll: 8
- Last week: W 1-0 v Montreal (Exh) (10/9)
- Coming Week: No Games /
A tight exhibition win starts off their campaign and the Tigers will take a week off before playing again.
9. Yale (0-0-0), 20 — Last poll: 9
- Last week: W 5-0 v McGill (Exh) (10/8)
- Coming Week: No Games /
A dominant win over a Canadian school leads into an off week for them as well.
10. Penn State (2-4-0), 13 — Last poll: 10
- Last week: L 2-3 v Colgate (10/7), L 1-2 v Colgate (10/8)
- Coming Week: @ Boston College (10/14, 10/15)/
The Nittany Lions were unable to steal a victory against Colgate and will now head to Chestnut Hill for a pair against an Eagles team that is not soaring right now.
