SB Nation’s Women’s College Hockey Division I Poll: Frozen Finale
We wrap up the season with a new dynasty emerging and hope for the future in a few teams.
What a couple of historic firsts: no WCHA team showed up to the finals, a non-WCHA team has defended their title, and a first-time Kaz winner, The final poll looks a little different then many thought it might when the season started.
1. Clarkson (36-4-1), 130 (13) — Last Week: 2
• Last Week: W 1-0 OT v Ohio State (3/16), W 2-1 OT v Colgate (3/18)
• Coming Week: No Games
The Golden Knights took extra time in both games to clinch the wins, but they say good things come to those who wait, and Clarkson repeated as the National Champions and once again are the Belles of the Ball.
2. Colgate (34-6-1), 115 — Last Week: 3
• Last Week: W 4-3 OT v Wisconsin (3/16), L 1-2 OT v Clarkson (3/18)
• Coming Week: No Games
It took an old foe to finally defeat the Raiders in the NCAA tournament. After shocking anyone who had not seen them play this season in their win over Wisconsin, the Raiders came up just a bit short in the final game.
3. Wisconsin (31-5-2), 104 — Last Week: 1
• Last Week: L 3-4 OT v Colgate (3/16)
• Coming Week: No Games
Wisconsin has had bad luck against the ECAC in the tournament lately, and this year was no different.
4. Ohio State (24-11-4), 92 — Last Week: 4
• Last Week: L 0-1 OT v Clarkson (3/16)
• Coming Week: No Games
The Ohio State Buckeyes did not have another upset in them, though they came close as the semifinal went to overtime.
5. Boston College (30-5-3), 75 — Last Week: 5

The Eagles had their annual late season meltdown a little early this year but received some good news when freshman Daryl Watts earned the Patty Kaz, which marks the first time a freshman (or sophomore) has ever won it. Add in the returning Olympic talent, and Boston College will likely be at the top of most people’s favorites to win next season.
6. Minnesota (24-11-3), 55 — Last Week: 5

• Coming Week: No Games
Minnesota was a game away from trying to reclaim their crown on home ice and now must look to regroup and play some quality non-conference games.
7. Northeastern (19-17-3), 42 — Last Week: 7
• Last Week: No Games
• Coming Week: No Games
The Huskies never quite matched up against Colgate but had a late lead against the champs and should have much to look forward to next season.
T-8. Mercyhurst (18-15-4), 33 —Last Week: 8
• Last Week: No Games
• Coming Week: No Games
The Lakers had a late lead and were a lucky bounce away from knocking off the champs in the quarterfinals.
T-8. Cornell (21-9-3), 33— Last Week: 9

The Big Red were unlucky to miss the tournament but can hold their heads up high with the knowledge that they competed well in what has to be the best conference in the country right now.
10. St. Lawrence (20-11-4), 19 — Last week: 10

The sleeping Saints stayed put in our final poll for the season.
