SDHL Game of the Week: Week 5
An interesting Friday night game in Sweden kicks off the weekend of games.
Brynäs v Linköping - Friday at 19:00 (1 p.m. ET)
Friday night’s game is a 1 v 3 matchup featuring an undefeated Brynäs club looking to extend its streak to eight games. Linköping comes in with a strong record of five wins and three loses.
Brynäs’ strength is no mystery: they can score a lot of goals. They’re currently averaging five goals a game with a league-leading 35 goals on the season. The Lara Stalder - Anna Meixner - Katerina Mrazova line has scored a combined 15 goals, but every line has been producing. That type of depth makes them an incredibly hard team to defend, and typically means they’re controlling the puck — and the game — a large majority of the time.
In addition, as a team Brynäs scores on a whopping 14.89% of their shots. Just let that sink in.
Goaltender Stephanie Neatby might have something to say about their goal production on Friday night though. In 357 minutes played, she’s only allowed nine goals with 196 saves. Combined with backup goaltender Emma-Sofie Nordström, Linköping has the lowest goals allowed total in the league with only 11 goals in seven games.
The opposite end of the ice is a different story for Linköping though. They’ve only found the net 14 times despite recording 241 shots thus far. To put that in comparison, that’s a team shooting percentage of 5.80%. Not ideal.
What might work in their favor is the fact that Brynäs’ goaltenders aren’t used to seeing a high volume of shots as they’ve only made a 135 saves thus far. If Linköping can keep control of the whole game — Brynäs has scored 13 third period goals — they have a good chance at hanging Brynäs their first loss of the season.
