Sunday afternoon games will wrap up PWHPA weekend in Truro, N.S.

The PWHPA will conclude its Showcase in Truro with two final games Sunday afternoon. Each team has now played four games, with Scotiabank leading the standings. The two games Sunday will settle the standings heading to the Pittsburgh Showcase later this month.

Adidas vs Sonnet

Nov. 6, 11 a.m. ET

Adidas lost their first game of the weekend in a narrow overtime battle against Harvey’s. The team rallied in their second, winning 5-3 in an offensive showdown with team Scotiabank. After dropping the first goal, Adidas’ star players stormed back. Kendall Coyne Schofield, Sarah Nurse, and Jincy Dunne all put their names on the scoresheet multiple times. The score was level after two, but Adidas left no doubt in the third.

Sonnet hasn’t fared as well on the Nova Scotia trip. They lost both games, being outscored 8-3 in the process. The team’s defensive performance has left much to be desired. They allowed Scotiabank to fire 46 shots on Friday night. Nicole Hensley was strong, stopping 44, but the team couldn’t make the best of her performance. Erica Howe was left to fend for herself in her crease and allowed five as Sonnet fell to Harvey’s.

Sonnet will be in for quite the challenge Sunday. They’re tasked with stopping the Adidas offence, which appears to be hitting its stride. At the other end of the ice, Sonnet’s Hilary Knight and Abby Roque will try to continue generating threatening offence.

Harvey’s vs Scotiabank

Team Harvey’s has put their offensive power on display so far this weekend. On Friday, they beat Adidas 4-3 in overtime. The two teams traded goals back and forth, but Harvey’s took the lead in the third period. With Nine minutes on the clock, Sarah Nurse tied it, leading to overtime. Heroics came from the player you’d expect it from the most, Marie-Philip Poulin. She used body positioning and strength to beat two defending players and tuck the puck into the net for the win. On Saturday, they beat Sonnet on the way to a 6-2 victory led by Jamie-Lee Rattray who had two goals joining Poulin, Nurse, and Scotiabank’s Rebecca Johnston at the top of PWHPA scoring.

Scotiabank’s weekend thus far has been underwhelming after their hot performance in Montreal last Month. The team outscored all opponents with seven in the two games. On Friday, they were able to generate offence totalling 46 shots but struggled to finish only, beating Sonnet 2-1. Their offence shone against Adidas, especially Mélodie Daoust, who earned the game’s third star. But Adidas’ forwards were even better, tallying five.

This game will be another offensive showdown.

The two hot forward groups will go head-to-head. A strong goaltending performance could steal the win.
