Syracuse Gets First Two Wins of Season
Weekend sweep helps take some of the pressure off of last year’s CHA Tournament runner-up
Coming into the series with Lindenwood last weekend, the Syracuse Orange had a huge weight on their shoulders. They were six games into the 2016-17 season without a win, having lost four out of those six games and tying in the other two. They were struggling to find their scoring touch and weren’t doing enough defensively. However, they had a great opportunity to get their first two wins of the season against a weak Lindenwood Lions team and they seized it, winning both games by scores of 4-0.
Abbey Miller Continues Stellar Season
Junior goaltender Abbey Miller stepped up big for the Orange this weekend, recording two shutouts. In the first game she made 22 saves, while in the second game she made 15. The shutouts were the first of her career. Despite what her 2-3-2 record might imply, Abbey Miller is having a stellar junior season - she has a .937 save percentage in 7 games with a 1.40 goals against average.
Alysha Burriss’ Hot Streak Continues
Alysha Burriss recorded two goals and an assist in the games against Lindenwood to continue her four game point streak. In total for the year she has recorded 3 goals and 3 assists in 8 games to lead Syracuse in points. She is also tied for first in goal scoring with Heather Schwarz and second in assists to Jessica Sibley.
