U18 Update: Amy Potomak Commits to Minnesota

If Amy Potomak’s name sounds familiar, it’s because it should. Her sister Sarah is a sophomore playing for Minnesota, and the younger Potomak will soon be following in her footsteps. According to CollegeCommitments.com, Amy Potomak committed to the Gophers for the 2017-2018 season on October 14th, 2016. It should be no surprise that the younger Potomak would choose to play on the same team as her sister. The two grew up practicing, training and playing together, and they both played in the 2013 U18 National Championship.

Perhaps playing together at the college level will help the two reach their mutual goal of representing Team Canada in the Olympics.

Not Just Sarah’s Sister

While there’s quite a bit of focus on the success and talent of the two Potomaks together, don’t dismiss Amy’s solo talent. Despite her young age, she’s accomplished a lot in her career. She’s competed in a number of elite championships, including the 2013 U18 National Championship and the 2015 U18 National Championship, where she was named tournament MVP. Potomak most recently competed in the 2016 World Juniors Championship, where she won a silver medal and racked up two goals and two assists. Shortly after World Juniors, Amy got one step closer to her Olympic dream when she was invited to her first Team Canada training camp.

Amy will be spending this season in the Junior Women’s Hockey League before heading to Minnesota next fall. In four regular season games with the Pacific Steelers, she already has nine points (3G, 6A), and the Steelers are 4-0-0.
