USA Hockey announces roster for February Rivalry Series

With two wins in hand, Team USA prepares for the three February games in the Rivalry Series with a brand new roster

After taking the first two games of the Rivalry Series in November, Team USA gears up for the final three match-ups that’ll take place in February. Earlier this morning, USA Hockey released the rosters for the games, which will take place in Victoria and Vancouver, British Columbia, and in Anaheim, California, on home soil.

Goal by Goal: Team USA takes a 2-0 lead in the Rivalry Series

Surprises

With the NCAA season back in full swing, it’s not too much of a surprise to see many collegiate athletes left off the February rosters. USA Hockey has called up a few more familiar faces, including Scamurra, Shaver, and the Lamoureuxs, to replace the gaps left by forwards Sydney Brodt, Kelly Browne, Jesse Compher, and WCHA standouts Britta Curl, Clair DeGeorge, and Abby Roque.

In goal, we have UMD senior Maddie Rooney left off the final roster, as is Northeastern standout Aerin Frankel. Again — no surprises there, since there’s NCAA action going on and most teams would be reluctant to release their star players to the national team so late in the season.

One surprise, however, is the appearance of Brianna Decker, who’s been sidelined by an injury for much of last season and the beginning of this season. Decker, who was an assistant coach for the gold medal-winning USA at the U18 World Championship, is back in action for the Rivalry Series. Fans of Decker’s speed and style of play will be delighted to see her reunited on a line with Kendall Coyne Schofield and Hilary Knight (though technically the line-ups are game day decisions, this line is well-trusted by USA head coach Bob Corkum).

Another familiar face back on Team USA is Katie Burt. A Boston College graduate, Burt has put up impressive numbers both in her professional and international careers, boasting a .920 save percentage in her last season with the Boston Pride.

You can watch all of the games on NHL Network.
