The month of October has come and gone and the WCHA, home of the defending National Champions Ohio State, has wrapped a slate of non-conference and conference play among its eight schools. Here are October’s players of the month – one player for each team in the conference.

Wisconsin

No one does it like Laila Edwards. The junior forward recorded her 100th career point with a power play goal against Bemidji State on October 24th to help keep the Badgers undefeated. She is the 33rd Badger to reach that career milestone in program history. She then added a goal in the following game bringing her career points total to 101 before the calendar changes to November. The Badgers are 10-0 on the season and sit on top of the standings and will look to continue that winning streak next month.

Ohio State

The Buckeyes had themselves a month with plenty of players who could easily be named player of the month but the honor goes to Jenna Buglioni whose stat line of nine goals and five assists in the month of October alone is impressive. She helped Ohio State stay in the second spot in the standings and helped the Buckeyes in the Ice Breaker Tournament adding five points in two games en route to winning this year’s championship.

Minnesota-Duluth

Olivia Mobley scored with style this month for the Bulldogs. The senior forward, in her first year with Duluth, had a shorthanded goal against Wisconsin for her first goal with the program. Later in that same game she also scored on the power play. She added one more goal against St. Thomas for three goals in two games. Mobley is the first Bulldog to score two goals against Wisconsin in four seasons.

St. Cloud State

Freshman goaltender Emilia Kyrkkö made quite the college hockey debut this month. The Nokia, Finland native earned a shutout in her first career start against Mercyhurst. She also came up clutch for the Huskies in their series against second-ranked Ohio State, helping the team earn two points against the Buckeyes behind a career-high 45 saves, and stopped all three shots faced in the shootout. Kyrkkö won three WCHA weekly honors this month: Goaltender of the Week twice and Rookie of the Week. She ended the month by being named WCHA Rookie of the Month behind two shutouts and a 3-0-2 record, helping the Huskies stay in the fourth spot in the standings.

St. Thomas

In her college hockey debut this month, Chloe Boreen came roaring onto the scene with a three-point weekend against Post University. The freshman recorded one goal and two assists that weekend leading to her first WCHA honors by being named Rookie of the Week, following it up with a goal and two assists again to begin her collegiate career with six points in four games. She helped lead the Tommies to a sweep of the Mavericks in conference play and looks to build on a great first month of her college career heading into November.

Minnesota

Junior defender Sydney Morrow shined in October by reaching an important career milestone. She began by scoring two goals against top-ranked Wisconsin helping the Gophers become the only team this season to hold a lead against the Badgers. She followed that up by recording her 50th and 51st career points with two assists against Minnesota State University in the first game of the series on October 25th helping the Gophers to the program’s 500th WCHA win. With more performances like this, Morrow is easily going to help Minnesota move up the standings.

The Mavericks are coming off a tough series against Minnesota but they managed to earn a point against the Gophers in the series finale with a 3-2 overtime loss behind Whitney Tuttle’s goal and two assists over that weekend series. Tuttle has had a great month with six goals and three assists in six games played. She had two goals in both the season-opening series against Long Island University and against St. Thomas. The junior is sure to add more offense this upcoming month.

Bemidji State

The Beavers had an exciting start to their season by recording their first win since January 27th, 2024 with a 6-3 win over Lindenwood on October 18th. Their performance this month was fueled by Co-players of the month forward Hailey Armstrong and defender Riley Reeves.

The offense was powered by Armstrong who recorded her first career hat trick in the opening game against the Lions. That helped her earn WCHA Forward of the Week honors, Bemidji’s first WCHA honor this season. But the blueline was also noticeable for the Beavers. Reeves put her body on the line blocking 23 shots in the month of October with six coming against St. Cloud State on October 11th. She also added two goals and one assist on offense. With two incredible performances, Armstrong and Reeves deserve high praise.
