Gold medal match: Canada beat the US 3-2 in overtime

This is Canada’s first U18 Gold in four years, and 16-year-old Maddi Wheeler scored the game-winner for them in overtime. Canadian goalie Raygan Kirk was also named MVP of the tournament after she surrendered only nine goals in her four games played.

Bronze medal match: Finland beat Russia 3-0

Finnish goaltender Erica Jaskari faced 25 shots from Russia during the game but managed to turn away all of them.

Additionally, the Czech Republic topped Japan 3-1 and relegated the host country for next year’s Worlds. This means that Japan will drop to the Division 1 Group A. Slovakia earned a promotion to the top division and will replace Japan in 2020.

Oh, Rivs. At least you put up a fight— literally. Both Madison Packer and Sarah Casorso left the ice on Saturday with a game misconduct for fighting early in the second period. The Beauts announced before the game that it would be Casorso’s last, as she is retiring mid-season to focus on her personal career.

Boston Pride beat Minnesota Whitecaps in Boston; 5 -4

Goals

Curtis notched her sixth goal of the season and Menke found her fourth, but it wasn’t enough to beat the Pride. In fact, this was Boston’s third victory this season over the Whitecaps, who haven’t seemed to figure out how to take on the Pride just yet.

Minnesota Whitecaps beat Connecticut Whale in Stamford; 4 - 1

This game was the age-old oceanic tale of whales vs. sharks, which is just what Mother Nature intended. The baby sharks of the NWHL prevailed in their 4-1 victory over Connecticut. Minnesota standout stars Jonna Curtis and Amy Menke must be butter, because they were on a roll this weekend with two goals each.

Shea Tiley was peppered with shots, seeing 54 in total, while Annie Belanger saw only 20. As far as high-scoring forwards go, Calgary is truly the team to beat this season.

Genevieve Lacasse returned to play on Sunday, stopping all 18 shots she faced while Noora Räty stopped 33 of 37. Lacasse’s shutout secured Montreal’s revenge against the Vanke Rays for the shutout victory on Saturday.

Furies beat Inferno in Calgary; 3 - 0

The Furies also had a redemption arc this weekend—goaltender Elaine Chuli stopped 29 shots for a shutout of her own against Calgary.
