It was opening weekend for the NWHL’s fourth season.

Saturday Oct. 6

Metropolitan Riveters lost to Minnesota Whitecaps; 4 - 0

The Whitecaps opened their historic debut NWHL season with a shutout win over the defending Isobel champions in front of a sellout crowd. Amanda Leveille backstopped the team’s first game of the weekend while all four goals came from first year NWHL players.

Riveters lose to Whitecaps; 3 - 1

Game two of the weekend series between the Riveters and Whitecaps was also a sell out at TRIA Rink, with 1,200 fans packing the stands. Leveille was in net again. Brandt netted her second NWHL goal while Boulier scored her first on her new team.

The Whale’s new goaltender Meeri Räisänen had her work cut out for her in her NWHL debut, only a few days after landing in the US. She made 34 saves on the night. Nicole Hensley made 10 stops in her first NWHL appearance to earn the shutout. The NWHL named Elia the first star of the game.
