Welcome to The Ice Garden
!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Welcome, at last, to The Ice Garden.
Our mission, plain and simple, is to tell the stories of all the women in hockey, from the CWHL and NWHL to college hockey to international leagues and everything in between. Everyone working for this site is here because they want to #GrowTheGame. And what better place to do that than a garden?
We will have regular coverage of the NWHL, the CWHL, the NCAA, and CIS. We’ll also be covering leagues like the RWHL, the AWIHL, and the various leagues in Europe and elsewhere around the globe, as well as all your national team needs.
We’re extremely excited to have partnered with some professional players, who will be contributing regularly to the site. Right now, Hannah McGowan’s first blog about playing in Austria is live, and she’ll be updating that throughout the season. We’ll be announcing other players that will be writing with us soon.
On a personal note, I was completely floored during the name and logo reveal at how excited people were for the site. We’ve poured a lot of blood, sweat and tears into this website over the last few months, and to see such a positive response was the best feeling in the world. This is probably the closest we’ll all get to feeling like we scored a game-winning goal at the Olympics (...unless you’re reading this, Marie-Philip Poulin).
This website has been a long time coming. It would take too many posts to write about all the people who made it happen. Travis Hughes, who has helped the site get off the ground, Anthony Mauro, our college editor who’s leading our entire college crew, our 50+ writers and photographers and designers and editors who applied and have created some truly stellar work, the other SBN site managers who have been so supportive and helped spread the word about the site…this is a team effort.
But we cannot do this without you. As much as we write, or design, or create, we cannot grow unless you keep reading and sharing our work. So thank you. We want to give you the very best women’s hockey coverage around, and I gotta say, we’ve got a pretty damn good team.
We’re ready to bloom, to sprout, to take root, to blossom … ok, I’m done with the garden puns (for now).
We’re finally here, and we’re going to help make this year the best year in women’s hockey yet.
